Salishan Spa Review: A Wellness Escape on the Oregon Coast

WONDERING IF SALISHAN SPA IS WORTH A STOP?

Spoiler, it is! Salishan Spa is a wellness haven on the Oregon Coast. Last weekend, my girls’ trip to a beach house in Lincoln City took us 20 minutes south to Gleneden Beach for a heavenly spa day.

Picture this: moody Siletz Bay views from the cozy hearth room, massages my girls raved about (though my pedicure had quirks), and an outdoor infinity hot tub that melted our stress away. It’s a spa day that dazzles—mostly.

We savored four hours there, capping it with a stroll through the Salishan Marketplace. Want a full weekend vibe? Book a stay at the Salishan Coastal Lodge. Keep reading for the full scoop!

Why Salishan Spa is a Must-Visit for Wellness Travelers who Find Themselves on the Coast

For wellness travelers cruising the Oregon Coast, Salishan Spa in Gleneden Beach isn’t just a stop—it’s a destination. Perched above Siletz Bay, it blends nature with luxe treatments that turn a detour into a soul-soothing escape.

I learned this firsthand last weekend on a girls’ trip, and despite a pedicure that didn’t quite hit the mark, this spa’s pull is undeniable. The spa offerings include:

✅ Massages and body treatments
✅ Facial and salon services
✅ Reiki and sound baths
✅ Manicures and pedicures
✅ Sauna and steam room
✅ Outdoor infinity hot tub
✅ Relaxation hearth room

To begin, enter through a long covered walkway with a trickling water feature, which leads to a calming lobby of dark wood and minimal charm. This serene vibe flows throughout with high ceilings and tall glass doors.

The stars? The outdoor infinity hot tub and hearth room, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame moody Siletz Bay views. Lounging there pre- or post-treatment feels like you are fully immersed in the natural surroundings.

Salishan leans holistic with the sauna, steam room, and reiki options rounding out the offerings. While the setting, amenities, and treatments were blissful, there are a few caveats that I’ll unpack next.

My Salishan Spa Experience: A Personal Deep Dive

In short, the Spa at Salishan is worth a visit. It’s a calming, elevated retreat. I believe anyone could savor their time here. For those wanting the full scoop, I’ll dive into my experience—complete with my discerning observations—below.

The Pedicure That Left Me Wanting…A Massage

While all my girlfriends opted for massages, I was due for a pedicure and saw this as the perfect chance to treat myself to something special. I booked the Fortifying Pedicure with Bio Seaweed Gel, and here’s my candid Salishan Spa pedicure review.

The pedicure itself was pleasant. The pedicurist was gentle, and my feet felt remarkably soft for an entire week afterward. But let me ask—what’s your favorite part of a pedicure? I’d wager it’s the massage, which happens to be the highlight for me too.

Unfortunately, that’s where this experience fell short. A thick lotion was generously applied to my legs, and then… nothing. It wasn’t even rubbed in. While my feet looked lovely, the service left me underwhelmed, especially considering the hefty price tag.

With tip, the pedicure came to $144—more than double my usual cost for a pedicure, yet the experience didn’t feel notably superior. C’est la vie. Thankfully, the hearth room saved the day.

Honestly, soaking in the outdoor infinity hot tub, gazing out at the misty bay, and listening to the rain was more than enough to make the visit worthwhile.

My Girlfriends’ Massage Magic

In striking contrast to my pedicure experience, all three of my girlfriends were absolutely thrilled with their massages. Two opted for prenatal massages, while the third chose the Coastal Remedy Massage.

I watched them emerge from their treatments in a state of pure bliss, their faces radiating relaxation. One of them, a licensed massage therapist herself, declared it among the best massages she’s ever received—no small praise!

All three were fortunate enough to be pampered by Molly, so if you’re booking, be sure to request her by name!

A Few Minor Hiccups (From a Picky Person)

Beyond my so-so pedicure experience, a few small tweaks could elevate the Salishan Spa to perfection—at least for someone as particular as I am.

First and foremost, I’m a sauna enthusiast. If a spa lacks a sauna, it’s a hard pass for me. Fortunately, Salishan Spa has one, but there’s a catch: it wasn’t hot enough, a disappointment for purists like myself.

I mean, I was able to work up a little sweat by sitting in the highest and hottest corner, taking deep breaths, trying to heat my body faster. But, I would have preferred it much hotter.

There was no thermostat or water to splash on the rocks for a burst of steam. I could have gone to the front desk and asked if they could turn it up, but I didn’t. Next time, I’d ask upon entry if they could turn the sauna up so it was hot by the time I got in.

The next oversight? No cold plunge. Pairing a sauna and hot pools with no icy counterpart feels like a missed chance to complete the experience. There’s a refreshing rain shower I used to cool off between soaks, but the water was far from chilly enough to satisfy.

Still, we spent five hours here, and though my pedicure flopped, the bay views, hot tub, hearth room, and my girl’s massages made it a must-visit. For those near Lincoln City, it’s a coastal gem—quirks and all—worth considering for a rejuvenating escape.

Beyond the Spa: Exploring Salishan Coastal Lodge

Elevate your spa getaway into a memorable weekend retreat by staying at the charming Salishan Coastal Lodge, conveniently situated just across the highway from the Spa and the Marketplace.

We went to check it out to see if we’d like to stay next time. The verdict? An enthusiastic yes! While it has its idiosyncrasies, the Lodge is an absolute gem for a coastal escape, particularly for those traveling with family.

The rooms are really large and have different views depending on which building you are in. Some of them look out over the golf course (yes, an 18-hole course!), and some create a more forest immersion feel.

For the kids, there is a huge pool housed in a big airy poolhouse with exposed beams. Want something more? There is an aerial tree course just down the street with 18 zip lines and 22 course elements. Sign up at the outdoor store in the marketplace!

For moms and wellness-minded travelers alike, there is a daily guided meditation and Hatha yoga class every morning – complimentary to lodge guests.

If one were to nitpick, the bathrooms could benefit from a modern update to align with the ‘luxury’ designation, and the diner-style booths in the onsite restaurants evoke a slight 90s nostalgia.

However, it’s evident that renovations have prioritized the essentials: comfortable beds, quality cuisine, and impressive amenities.

In my opinion, the Salishan Coastal Lodge is an idyllic escape. Picture yourself having a warm coffee beside your in-room fireplace, gazing out over the golf course, embarking on a thrilling family adventure at the tree course in the afternoon, or unwinding in the infinity hot tub at the Spa as time slips away.

A Stroll Through the Salishan Marketplace

Oregon coastal towns can be… run down. You typically find your classic candy stores, trinket stores, antique stores, and super hippy coffee shops. But the Marketplace has shops that I would actually purchase things from.

If you want to do a little shopping or find good coffee, head across the highway from the main lodge (where the Spa is) to The Marketplace. I’d argue that some of the best shops on the coast are here. It’s a great way to kill time if you’re looking for things to do near Salishan Spa before your appointment.

We strolled through here for quite a while after our time at the Spa. We got coffees at Pioneer Joe’s Coffee House – the coffees and pastries were delicious. It was a nice surprise to find a good coffeehouse on the coast.

We also went to Depot Bakery and shopped at Adventure Collective (this is where you book the aerial tree course) and Searenity Boutique. Both shops were SO cute.

You can also find a brewery, restaurants, and a gym in the Marketplace. Basically everything you need 🙂

Tips for Planning Your Salishan Spa Getaway

My top tip for orchestrating your Salishan Spa escape? Book early—seriously! The website recommends reserving your spot at least six weeks in advance.

We learned this the hard way, booking just two weeks ahead, which left our appointments scattered throughout the day.

If you’re hoping to sync treatments with a friend or loved one, early booking is essential. Even if it’s just for yourself, I’d suggest planning at least a few weeks out to secure your preferred time—better safe than sorry!

Next, if you’re a sauna aficionado like me and crave that intense heat, request a temperature boost when you arrive.

Another nugget of advice: skip the pedicure if a leg massage is your priority. If aesthetics are your focus, though, go for it—my feet and toes looked fabulous afterward.

Finally, pack a good book and savor every moment in the outdoor hot tub and hearth room. Lingering in these serene spaces truly revitalized me.

Conclusion: I’ll Be Back

Though my pedicure may have fallen flat, the sight of my friends drifting out of their massages in a state of bliss, paired with hours of coastal tranquility in the infinity hot tub, sauna, and hearth room, has etched Salishan into my memory.

If the minor hiccups I’ve noted don’t faze you, you’re virtually guaranteed to relish your time here. I suggest visiting in winter if you can—the stormy weather and misty bay create a soothing ambiance that’s hard to beat.

Whether you’re on a quick city escape from Portland or you’re totally new to Oregon, you’ll love your time here.
