Reasons to go on a Yoga Retreat in Spain

Spain is an idyllic yoga retreat destination. The lush mountainous countryside, olive groves and vineyards, and white-washed houses, combined with the almost year-round sun are perfectly beautiful and charming. With the sea on three sides, Spain has the most beaches of any country in Europe.

If you are a foodie, or even if you aren’t, you’ll be in heaven eating Spanish cuisine. Think of lots of olive oil, seafood, and cured meats. And, of course, we can’t forget about tapas culture.

The style, price (sometimes free with a drink), and volume will be slightly different from region to region but wherever you are you will encounter tapas in some form.

Hiking in Spain
21-year-old me hiking in Andalusia

Like much of Europe, Spain has a rich and fascinating history. Its location has made it a key political and cultural bridge across multiple continents. It’s of course known for its role in the discovery of the Americas and its neutrality in both world wars.

Its modern history is just as fascinating. Politics in Spain are tumultuous. The Catalonian region has its own language and has been trying to become independent from Spain. Gibraltar, the southernmost tip of Spain is actually United Kingdom territory, and the country has one of the largest portions of UNESCO sites in the world.

One of my favorite parts of Spain is the architecture. Some of the most ornate in the world (La Sagrada) and some of the most quintessentially Mediterranean (stucco and adobe exteriors with earth-toned roofs).

Wrap-Up: Yoga Retreats Spain

Whether you are thinking about going to Spain specifically for a yoga retreat, or are thinking about doing a short add-on retreat to your trip, there should be something for you here.

Spain truly has so much to offer. From the endless coastline to the serene countryside, and metropolitan cities to tranquil islands. The history, architecture, art, and of course tapas are all unique and romantic. I hope you are inspired to book your next yoga retreat in Spain.
